Andhra Pradesh: Mob assaults sub-inspector, constables inside a police station in Nellore district
The attackers claimed that the sub-inspector beat up three people after calling them in for an investigation.
A mob attacked a sub-inspector and three constables at a police station in Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district on Wednesday. They attacked sub-inspector Lakshman Rao because he allegedly beat up three people who he had called for questioning.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Ram Babu said the police had detained a man for drunk driving and sent him to a hospital for a medical test. “However, the locals questioned the move to send him to the hospital and picked up a fight,” Babu told The News Minute.
Babu said the mob dragged sub-inspector Lakshman Rao out of the police station. “The SI [sub-inspector] suffered a head injury while three constables also suffered minor injuries,” Babu said, adding that police will begin an investigation into the incident.
The attackers claimed Rao had called in Pichchaiah, Lakshmamma and Kanakamma based on a complaint filed by a person named Ravi, according to NDTV. Rao reportedly beat them up, angering relatives and locals who forced open the door of the police station and attacked the policemen.
