The man’s family will get Rs 5 lakh as compensation.
The Jammu and Kashmir government on Monday ordered a magisterial inquiry into firing by security forces that killed a cattle trader in Ramban district on Sunday, PTI reported.
The sub-divisional magistrate of Gool area will submit a report soon, Ramban Deputy Commissioner Showkat Ajaz Bhat said. He added that the family of the man who was killed will receive Rs 5 lakh as compensation.
Soldiers of the 58 Rashtriya Rifles fired upon two cattle traders around 4 am on Sunday. Mohammad Rafiq Gujjar, 28, died on the spot, while Shakeel Ahmed, 30, was injured and taken to a hospital. He is now in stable condition at the Government Medical College hospital in Srinagar.
The police filed a first information report against the Army personnel involved. The Army claimed it had retaliated after coming under fire, and said the two men were moving suspiciously in the area.
The National Conference’s district president, Sajjad Shaheen, condemned the killing and demanded a judicial investigation by a sitting judge, reported Greater Kashmir.
