Jammu and Kashmir: Four Army personnel, two suspected militants killed in encounter in Gurez
The police said the firing along the Line of Control started around 1 am.
Four Army men, including a major, and two suspected militants were killed in an encounter along the Line of Control in Gurez area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Tuesday.
An unidentified Army officer said Major KP Rane, soldiers Jamie Singh, Vikramjeet and Mandeep were killed in the firing. The bodies of the two militants who were killed in the incident are yet to be recovered, the officer said, according to GNS.
Senior Superintendent of Police of Bandipora, Zulfikar Ahmad, told Greater Kashmir that the firing started around 1 am.
A group of eight suspected militants reportedly fired at the Army’s 36 Rashtriya Rifles along the LoC in the Nane sector in Baktoor, Kashmir Reader reported quoting Army officials. While four militants retreated, two were killed in the exchange of fire and two are hiding in the area, officials said.
