Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Monday criticised the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi, accusing it of failing to check corruption in Telangana, reported PTI. At a public meeting in Sherilingampalli on the outskirts of Hyderabad, Gandhi compared Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and said both have the “same style”.

He said Telangana has become the capital of corruption under the rule of a single family. “Corruption is rampant in Telangana while the government is snatching away land belonging to farmers and there is no help for women self-help groups,” Gandhi claimed. “The condition in Telangana is the same as in New Delhi and all promises by both PM Narendra Modi and KCR have never been fulfilled.’’

The Congress president said both the state government and the National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre were similar. “Both the NDA and the TRS were making false promises everywhere,” NDTV quoted the Gandhi as saying. “Modi ji says he will put Rs 15 lakh in everyone’s bank account. Here, the chief minister says he will give double bedroom house to everyone. Both make big promises but will not fulfil.”

Gandhi said the Congress would fulfil promises made to Telangana and to Andhra Pradesh once it is voted to power. The Congress president added that banks were now open only for a few rich industrialists. “When Congress will come to power, the doors of all banks will be open for women SHGs, small and medium businesses and farmers who will be able to secure bank loans easily,” he said. “Our focus will be on jobs for the youth, health, education and safety of women.”

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao reacted to the Congress president’s remarks, asking him to act like a matured person, reported the Hindustan Times. “Rahul Gandhi should improve his maturity,” said Rao. “He should not read a script written by someone else. He should know the facts about the state’s finances.”

“Rahul Gandhi does not have any idea of how many unemployed people are there in the state...Isn’t it enough the number of years the Congress ruled?” Rao asked, according to NDTV. “AICC leaders talk without decorum or decency... They defamed us saying we are a threat to the people of Andhra Pradesh.”
