Iraq: At least 6 tribal militia personnel die, 7 wounded in suicide attack in Salahuddin province
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet but Islamic State militants are active in the area.
At least six people died and seven others were wounded in a suicide attack on a former lawmaker’s house in Iraq’s Salahuddin province on Wednesday, Reuters reported.
The attack occurred in Asdira village in Salahuddin province’s Shirqat district early on Wenesday near the house of former Iraqi lawmaker, Adnan al-Ganam. Asdira is a Sunni Muslim village, the report added.
Shiqat district’s police chief Colonel Khalil al-Sahn said a militant wearing a suicide vest blew himself up at al-Ganam’s house. The victims were members of the Tribal Mobilisation Forces, a group of Sunni militias who help the government in its fight against Islamic State.
Some reports, however, claimed there were two blasts and as many as 15 people were killed. Salahuddin province’s capital Tikrit and Shirqat are now on high alert.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet but Islamic State militants are active in the area and have often carried out similar attacks.
