Sri Lankan Navy arrests six fishermen from Tamil Nadu after allegedly ramming their boat
The fishermen will be produced before a court in the island nation.
A vessel of the Sri Lankan Navy allegedly hit a mechanised boat with six fishermen from Tamil Nadu on board and sank it off the coast of Neduntheevu in Sri Lanka, reported PTI. All the men were rescued and will be produced before a court there, said Assistant Director of Fisheries Kumaresan on Thursday.
The incident happened on Wednesday night after the fishermen from Jegadapattinam in Pudukottai district strayed into Sri Lankan waters due to strong wind and choppy sea conditions. Their fishing boat was allegedly struck by the naval personnel.
Kumaresan said that the rescued fishermen were taken to the Kangesanthurai port in Sri Lanka and will be produced before the Mallagam court there.
On August 10, the Sri Lankan Navy arrested 27 fishermen from Tamil Nadu for fishing in its waters.
