‘Ab ki baar, Trump Sarkar’: PM Modi and US President address 50,000-strong audience in Houston
During the ‘Howdy Modi’ event, the prime minister insisted that ‘everything is fine’ in India.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and United States President Donald Trump addressed over 50,000 Indian-Americans at the “Howdy Modi” event in Houston on Sunday. Modi is in the United States since Saturday on a week-long visit.
Both leaders said in their speeches that the relationship between the two countries had never been better. Trump praised Modi’s leadership of India, and talked about the opportunities for the countries to deepen their trade relations.
Modi insisted that everything in India is fine, repeating the statement in multiple Indian languages to drive home the idea. With portions of the Kashmir Valley still under a lockdown, Modi said the revocation of the region’s special status was a great achievement that would give more rights to the people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh.
In a significant statement ahead of the election year for the US president, Modi said, “Ab ki baar, Trump Sarkar [this time, Trump’s government]”. Before winding up, Modi asked the audience to give a standing ovation to the US president for supporting India in its stance against terror, and made remarks clearly aimed at Pakistan.
Later on his trip, Modi will speak at the United Nations General Assembly session, where questions about his government’s recent actions in Kashmir are expected to come up.
