Our hearts swell with pride as we note that Deepika Padukone is in the very first shot of the trailer of xXx: Return of Xander Cage, but we have to admit that the gravity-challenging stunts have impressed us much more.
Vin Diesel’s Xander Cage is back in pursuit of “guns, girls and global domination” in the DJ Caruso production, which will be released on January 20, 2017. The movie is a back-to-basics reboot that seeks to revive the thrill-seeking spirit of the first movie, xXx (2002), as well as take in the developments in extreme sport-inspired stunts since. The plot: Xander Cage emerges from exile to prevent the evil Xiang from getting his hands on a weapon known as Pandora’s Box. As Xander Cage moves up, down and to the left and right of the grid before leaping right off it, there is little doubt that this movie is going to raise the bar as far as action sequences go.
In a nod to the lucrative foreign markets and fan bases that await Diesel’s latest adventure, the multi-racial cast includes Chinese actor Donnie Yen (from the Ip Man movies), Thai action star Tony Jaa, Brazilian footballer Neymar and Padukone as the red-lipped, tattooed and mean-looking Serena Unger, who is spotted wielding guns and a knife. One can safely assume that an India-tailored trailer will reveal more on her character as January nears.
