Manu Antony’s taut and effective short film contains only one word, “Vicky”, and many woofs and whines. These belong to the adorable golden retriever (real name Rex) of the title. He lives in a sprawling home in rural Kerala, and his days are fruitfully spent seeing his master off and then waiting for his master to return. When the owner comes back one day with a pair of caged birds, Vicky’s inner life is awakened. Dog lovers will be thankful for the several close-ups of the beautiful beast, which manages to act as naturally as possible.
