The bursting category of film songs in praise of mothers has a new addition: Meri Pyari Ammi from the upcoming Secret Superstar. Advait Chandan’s debut feature for Aamir Khan Productions stars Dangal actor Zaira Wasim as Insiya, an aspiring performer who becomes an internet sensation after uploading a home-made music video while concealing her identity behind a burkha. Aamir Khan plays strutting star Shakti Singh who boosts Insiya’s prospects. Meri Pyari Ammi, written by Kausar Munir, composed by Amit Trivedi and sung by Meghna Mishra in a casual, freewheeling style, is a simple guitar-led tribute to Insiya’s “warm-as-a-blanket” mother, played by Meher Vij. The movie will be released on October 19.
