After Big Bang Theory actor Mayim Bialik’s controversial New York Times op-ed on sexual assault, Bollywood actor Tisca Chopra is the latest actor to be slammed for her comments on women and victim-blaming.
“I’m going to be very categorical when I say that women are just as much to blame, because they put themselves in those vulnerable positions,” the actor told The Print in an interview. “Why do these women go to hotel rooms? Do they not fear for their personal safety? Have they not heard of people’s reputations, and why do they engage with those men?” Addressing the recently trending #MeToo campaign that came on the heels of the Harvey Weinstein expose, the actor added that women should say no point blank. She further went on to question the need for women to be alone with “men like that”.
Chopra’s comments led to criticism on Twitter.
Really, @tiscatime? Reaaaaaaallllllyyyyy? Did I ‘not care for my personal safety’ when I was in a posh delhi market at 3pm? Really? Okay. https://t.co/7Rb1ttb1Tk

Tisca Chopra started blaming victims instead. Maybe to stay in good books of filmmakers, hoping for a role atleast as supporting artiste https://t.co/6h9m47cF5Z

This is the mentality that allows people in power to continue behaving however they please. Put some responsibility where it belongs.
