The trailer for actor and comedian Kapil Sharma’s colonial-era drama Firangi blends whimsy and quirk with drama. Set in Raj-era India, Firangi chronicles the story of Magga (Sharma), a good-for-nothing village idiot who starts being taken seriously after he is employed by the British as a law enforcement officer.
As nationalist sentiment rapidly builds in a country struggling to oust its colonial rulers, Magga continues to be one of the few supporters of British rule. But his support is sorely tested when he falls in love with a woman (Ishita Dutta) but cannot marry her because her father objects to his ideological stance.
Directed by Rajiev Dhingra, Firangi also stars Monica Gill, Kumud Mishra, Rajesh Sharma, Inaamulhaq, Aanjjan Srivastav and Jameel Khan. This is the first film to be produced by Kapil Sharma’s K9 Productions. Firangi is scheduled for a November 24 release.
Firangi is Sharma’s second feature film after Abbas-Mustan’s Kis Kis Ko Pyaar Karoon (2015). Sharma’s hugely popular television show The Kapil Sharma Show went off air in August this year, reportedly because of Sharma’s ill health.
