After an intense teaser campaign, the song Ghoomar from Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s upcoming movie Padmavati has been released. This is the first song to be released from the December 1 release. Deepika Padukone, who plays the fictional queen Padmini, performs the traditional Rajasthani folk dance ghoomar. The movie will also be released in 3D.

Padukone trained for over two weeks with choreographer Kruti Mahesh and Rajasthani dance teacher Jyoti D Tommar for the song. Padukone’s skirt reportedly weighs 20 kilos. The song has been sung by Shreya Ghosal and composed by Bhansali.

Based on Malik Muhammad Jayasi’s epic poem Padmavat, the film features Padukone as Padmini, Shahid Kapoor as her husband Rawal Ratan Singh, and Ranveer Singh as Alauddin Khilji, depicted here as a lusty invader who tries to conquer Padmini by taking her kingdom by force.

Padmavati’s trailer and the first looks of the cast were released earlier this month.
