In Heena D’Souza’s Pressure Cooker, household appliances have minds of their own, offering storytelling opportunities that are heavy with subtext.

Set in the 1990s, the short film begins with a woman (Pallavi Joshi) wrestling with a cooker that refuses to behave and an apathetic husband (Mukul Chadda). Her husband refuses to let her buy another cooker, but a whole new world of possibilities opens up when she decides to take matters into her own hands and purchase it nonetheless.

With a beautiful background score and recognisable metaphors, Pressure Cooker simmers with emotion. The film has been nominated for the 2018 Filmfare Short Film Awards. It is available for viewing on the Humara Movie YouTube channel.
