Acclaimed American writer and director Charlie Kaufman is working on his first script for the streaming platform Netflix. Kaufman, who has written Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Adaptation and directed Synecdoche, New York and Anomalisa, will adapt and direct Iain Reid’s novel I’m Thinking of Ending Things.
In Reid’s 2016 bestseller, a man named Jake finds his life unravelling after he abandons his girlfriend.
“Charlie is a singular talent with a formidable artistic vision,” said Scott Stuber, head of Netflix’s film group, as reported by Variety. “He has the rare ability to tell unique stories in a universal way. I’m Thinking of Ending Things is a chilling thriller and we can’t wait to share Charlie’s adaptation with audiences everywhere.”
Kaufman has also collaborated on Doug Liman’s upcoming movie Chaos Walking, which is set in a dystopian world where there are no women. The movie, starring Daisy Ridley, Tom Holland and David Oyelowo, will be released in March 2019, Indiewire reported.
