Rajkummar Rao transitions from sinister to vile in his role as British-Pakistani terrorist Ahmad Omar Saeed Sheikh in the trailer for Hansal Mehta’s upcoming drama Omerta.
“Who are you?” a tortured voice asks him, to which he grimly responds: “I am the saviour.”
The trailer traces Sheikh’s journey from his younger days of learning about jihad to his training in militant camps. It then shows snippets of his terror activity over the years, including the 1994 kidnapping of four foreign tourists in Delhi, the 9/11 attacks in the US in 2001, the 2002 kidnapping and murder of journalist Daniel Pearl in Pakistan and the 26/11 Mumbai attacks in 2008.
Sheikh is currently in prison in a Pakistani jail, serving a life sentence for his involvement in Pearl’s murder.
Omerta was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2017 and will be released in theatres on April 20.
