The trailer for Srijit Mukherji’s upcoming Bengali drama Ek Je Chhilo Raja, starring Jisshu U Sengupta, Jaya Ahsan, Aparna Sen, Anjan Dutt, Anirban Bhattacharya and Rudranil Ghosh, was released on Monday.
The film is based on the Bhawal case of 1921, a 16-year-long court case about the mysterious return of Ramendra Narayan Ray, the second prince of the Bhawal estate, 12 years after his supposed death. Ray had been declared dead in 1909. In 1921, a holy man resembling the dead prince arrived at the estate, sparking off rumours that the prince had indeed returned.
Sengupta plays the role of the holy man/prince in Mukherji’s screen adaptation. “As the first witness, I would like to call a corpse,” says the lawyer representing the sadhu in the trailer. The trailer, set to the Rabindranath Tagore song Maharaj E Ki Saaje, then goes into a flashback about the prince’s life.
Ek Je Chhilo Raja will be released on October 12.
