On Saturday, Mumbai families gathered on beaches around the city to bid farewell to Mumbai's patron, the Elephant God Ganesh. Fondly called "Ganpati Bappa", statues of the deity were installed in homes and in streetside pandals on Ganesh Chaturthi on August 29. They will be immersed in the sea on several auspicious days until Ananth Chaturdashi on September 8.

Saturday was the first auspicious occasion for immersion, marking one-and-a-half day since Ganesh Chaturthi.

Here are a few Instragram shots taken of the visarjan ceremony across beaches in Mumbai.
