When you're done reading this book just plant it in the ground – it'll turn into a tree!

“Plant trees” is one social message that can be easily spotted in many children’s books. But planting books to grow trees is something else altogether. An Argentinian publisher has launched a children's book that has seeds fused in it. Once you're done reading, you can just plant the book in the ground, turning the book into the root of a future tree.

Pequeño Editor based in Buenos Aires, launched the innovative format, called 'Tree, Book, Tree' in order to educate children that paper comes from trees and to teach them about ecological responsibility. The story is based on a real life experience, “Mi papa estuvo en la selva” (My daddy was in the jungle) and is aimed at children in the 8-12 year-old rage. In the story, a boy recounts his father’s adventures in the jungle of Ecuador. Accounting for the relevance of lush green forests and a child’s connection to the jungle, the publishers decided to go with a tag line “trees and children can grow together” during the launch of the book.

The picture book is made out of acid-free paper, silk-screened and printed with ecological ink, and hand-stitched and bound. Jacaranda seeds are sown into the pages to help the book turn into root of the tree. Although this is just an initiative based in Buenos Aires, Argentina, it has the potential to be on the shelves of bookstores all around the world.
