When this Syrian family of mother, father and daughter arrived in Canada, which has opened its doors to refugees from the country, they might not have been expecting to be greeted by the country's prime minister personally. But not only did Justin Trudeau – looking just like a regular guy in shirt-sleeves – give them a warm personal welcome, he also helped them find warm clothes that fit and told the little girl, "You're not even going to remember this."

"Welcome to your new home," Trudeau told the family. They may have been surprised to learn that the man in the blue shirt was the Prime Minister of Canada, and the woman next to him, the Premier or Ontario, Kathleen Wynne.

And why is Canada doing this?

Trudeau told the staff and volunteers at the facility, "First of all, thank you for being here. And thank you for the gorgeous smiles I see. This is a wonderful night where we get to show not just a planeload of new Canadians what Canada is all about, we get to show the world how to open our hearts and welcome in people who are fleeing extraordinarily difficult situations."

"But it's not just about receiving them tonight. It's about the hard work we're all going to do in the coming weeks, months and indeed years to ensure that everyone who passes through here tonight and in the weeks and months to come are able to build a life for themselves, for their family and also contribute fully to the continued growth of this extraordinary country."

Sure, it was another photo-/video-op too. But even if that was all it was, it was human. And here's the video that Canadian children made to welcome the settlers. "It's a very nice place here, there's no war, and you can go to school safely."
