Watch the police action against protesting students at University of Hyderabad
Earlier, students forced their way into the Vice-Chancellor's office and damaged equipment and furniture.
On Tuesday the University of Hyderabad campus, already at boiling point after the scheduled return of the vice-chancellor Podile Appa Rao, erupted in violence. First, students protesting against the vice-chancellor – who is alleged to have abetted Rohith Vemula's suicide – went on a rampage in Rao's office, damaging equipment and furniture.
Then the police entered the campus and attempted to disperse a gathered crowd of protesting students by force (video above). They tried to drag some of the students away by their clothes and remove others bodily, while the rest of the students resisted. The police succeeded in evicting most of the protesting students, but not before there were injuries reported.
