Liverpool have a special fascination for pulling off miracles in global tournaments, don't they? After the "Miracle in Istanbul" in 2005 where Liverpool won the UEFA Champions League against AC Milan by fighting back from a 3-0 deficit, they've just pulled off another and this time at their own home, Anfield.

Staring down the barrel at 3-1 on aggregate against Borussia Dortmund in their key Europa League encounter on Thursday, Liverpool managed to fight back in an incredible thriller and win the game 5-4 to book a spot in the semis, amidst rambunctious scenes at Anfield.

Just like in Istanbul all those years ago, Liverpool fell behind right in the early stages. Two goals from Dortmund in the first ten minutes swelled the lead to 3-1 and the visitors went in at half-time looking like a place in the semi-finals was all but guaranteed.

Lesser Liverpool sides would have folded by then, accepting the inevitable. But this one forged by Jurgen Klopp has a steely underside to it. Divock Origi gave them hope just after half-time with a great goal in the 48th minute, but Marco Rueus's 57th minute finish seemed like Dortmund would hold on.

And then it was Liverpool... all the way. Buoyed by the "Kop" at Anfield who never stopped hoping, Coutinho shot low and perfect from outside the box and narrowed the deficit in the 66th. Twelve minutes later, Mamadou Sakho scored perhaps the most important goal of his career, to bring Liverpool level.

Then, with injury time kicking in, James Milner floated in a perfect cross and Dejan Lovren rose high to head the ball in.
