Watch: BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj denies asking girl to lower her jeans to show her wounds, blames media
The video that went viral shows the BJP MP from Unnao in Uttar Pradesh sitting and watching as a girl is made to take off her jeans.
Courting controversy is not new for BJP parliamentarian Sakshi Maharaj. From being a vociferous cow zealot to demanding that Hindu women give birth to at least four children, he keeps saying rather extraordinary things.
Now, a video from in Unnao in Uttar Pradesh – Maharaj's constituency – purportedly shows a young woman being made to unbutton her jeans to show the MP her injuries. The girl, a member of BJP worker Maidan Singh's family, was allegedly injured following a police raid on Singh’s house. The raid was in connection with trading in illicit liquor, leading to Singh's arrest.
Maharaj was at Singh’s house after the raid, when the girl was made to unbutton her jeans in public view and in front of cameras to "show the MP the injuries".
Defending himself, Maharaj said in a TV interview (video below) that it was a media conspiracy, claiming that he was trying to stop the girl, but that she went ahead anyway.
This was not the only controversy. At a rally soon after the incident took place, Maharaj apparently used “foul language” against police officials and “threatened to take revenge” if the BJP lost in UP in 2017, superintendent of police Himanshu Kumar said. He also threatened to "shoot" policemen if they visited Fardpur again, the SP declared.
A case has been filed against Maharaj in this regard.
