A cruise in the pristine waters of Australia’s “Shark Bay” caught a gory sight. The clear waters turned bloody as 70 tiger sharks tore into a dead whale. The sight was caught on Friday as two boatloads of tourists on a cruise in Western Australia came across the gruesome spectacle.

Cruise operator Eco Abrolhos uploaded pictures on Facebook, and sent up a drone to capture an aerial view of the event.

“Passengers on our 14-day Geraldton to Broome and everywhere in between were treated to an unexpected phenomena while cruising inside Dirk Hartog Island,” the post said. “Something to show and tell the grandchildren.”

Jay Cox, the tour operator, told the BBC the sharks were going all around the boats, bumping into them, but were “pretty docile”. The sharks, some of which, he said, were as big as the boats (six metres), were taking turns eating the whale. “Six or eight of them would come in and they were casually getting a mouthful and shaking it loose and moving out of the way for the next one to come in...”.
