Watch: This stand-up comic talks hilariously of the needlessness of shopping (and of designerware)
'Is the cow responsible for designer milk a snob?'
Stand-up comedian Azeem Banatwalla of East India Comedy dedicates a chunk of his solo act, Out of My System, to shopping habits – the eternal cliché of men versus women and the varied expectations in the mix.
He has important questions. For instance, Banatwalla wonders why certain "designer" ice-cream brands are so expensive. Isn’t it all simply milk, after all? “What designer milk are they using?” he asks, eliciting titters from his audience. “Amul Prada for Haagen Dazs ice-cream!” he declares, wondering whether the cow responsible for the milk is a snob.
Banatwalla also takes off on other forms of affected, pretentious retail, including the ubiquitous "shoppee". The final punchline: when staff members at a "shoppee" insist they don’t have fake Puma t-shirts, Banatwalla retorts, “Dude, it has Puna written on it!”
