A crowd makes way for an ambulance. The video goes viral. That says everything
More than a million people have watched a group of Indians clearing the road for an ambulance. It's a rare sight.
Ganesh Chaturthi ended recently, but the after-effects of the festival are still being felt on the internet. A two-minute video shot during the festival and placed in the social media stream on Saturday had garnered over a million views and been shared over 35,000 times in just two days.
There’s nothing too special about the video. It shows a crowd of people in Pune making way to let an ambulance pass through. In most countries, not much would be made of the incident. A basic principle of both humanity and road laws is that cars and people should make way for an ambulance.
But not in India. Especially during the Ganpati festival where entire roads are packed with swathes of humanity. Ambulances are often not given right of way on such occasions. At other times, they often have to wait for cars to make way, and are even stopped to let VIPs pass.
And so an exception to this rule is now a viral hit. Maybe no one can believe their eyes, and has to see it over and over.
