Watch: Here’s why you can never afford to live on the moon
It might cost around $260 per second per person.
Will we have to migrate out of Earth one day?
Can we afford it?
This video helpfully looks at how much it would cost if there comes a day when we need to pack up and leave the planet for... well, other pastures.
The idea here is to estimate the costs for four astronauts to reach the moon and live there for 365 days. Several factors and their estimates are taken into account – food, water, actually getting to the moon, electricity via a nuclear reactor, and more.
It is believed that this may be a real possibility in the future, when commercial space companies are better prepared. While it’s impossible to predict every minute detail of a trip to the moon that lasts longer than a quick stop-over, the estimated cost is still a massive sum of 36 billion.
Maybe we should just look after our planet better?
