Watch: This video perfectly captures the struggle of trying to find a house on rent in Mumbai
It would be funny if it didn't feel all too real.
True, Mumbai might be one of the safer cities of India. At the same time, one of the most expensive real estate markets in the world is not very welcoming to outsiders, single people, diverse faiths, meat-eaters...the list goes on.
"Cigarettes not allowed, clothes not allowed, you must laugh at the secretary's jokes, don't feed the animals, boys not allowed."
It sounds like an alternate version of the Nissim Ezekiel poem Irani Restaurant Instructions. It might have been funny if it didn't feel so true.
The latest video from the Bhartiya Digital Party is titled Aaplya Baapachi Society (Our Fathers' Society). It is set in the office of the building secretary, and captures the increasingly absurd questions that are posed to the young women looking to get clearance from the society to rent a flat. This is their 127th attempt.
Things take a turn for the worse. News channels are involved. And the building secretary condemns "today's generation" for what they are doing to the nation.
