Plumber's block: An Indian stand-up imagines what life would be like if everybody was an artist
Get in touch with your inner Van Gogh.
“My father never had truck driver’s block. Why should I have writer’s block?” so goes the famous quote by American columnist Roger Simon. That is just one of the many takes on the artistic life. A new video by Mumbai-based comedy artist Biswa Kalyan Rath takes a different route from this idea: What if everybody was an artist?
While Rath’s earlier video imagined a world where time travel was possible, the latest sees a wide array of characters engaged in seemingly unremarkable professions pondering on the artistic merit of their work.
In such a world, less work might be done, but there might be more room for comedy.
For instance, a plumber might have trouble doing his work because of plumber’s block, or a vegetable vendor’s stock of smashed tomatoes would never be sold because people don’t understand their artistic value.
