After travelling to host the 69th Emmy Awards, The Late Show host Stephen Colbert (above) came back to the studio with a bang. “Speaking of travelling, Donald Trump is on a trip to a very hostile region – New York City,” Colbert begins. “And this morning, he gave his first official address at – I want to say Starfleet Academy?”

He was referring to Trump’s debut at the United Nations, where he delivered several harsh statements about North Korea, among other things.

Colbert reminded the audience that Trump was never a fan of the inter-governmental peace broker. In 2012, the US President had even tweeted about “the cheap 12 inch square tile behind the speaker at UN” that always bothered him and even offered to replace them, if the UN ever asked him.

“They’re not going to ask you,” Colbert declared. “They’re going to ask you to send soldiers to New Uganda, not sconces to the lobby.”

The highlight of Trump’s address, according to Colbert, was threatening an organisation that was founded with the hope of creating lasting peace. “The United States has great strength and patience, but if it is forced to defend itself or its allies, we will have no choice but to totally destroy North Korea,” Trump said. Colbert was particularly amused by Trump’s new nickname for North Korea’s Supreme Leader Kim Jong-Un: “Rocket Man”. “Mr President, please don’t give our enemies nicknames that make them sound cooler,” he pleaded, with obvious mockery.

Colbert didn’t stop there. The Late Show also presented an imagined “Elton John insult-off” between Trump and Kim Jong-Un. Jong-Un unveiled his new “album” Goodbye Yellow Haired Toad, where the Supreme Leader “reimagines the hits of Elton John to mock Trump”.
