Watch: Why were the women in this village worshipping a kangaroo-shaped dustbin?
They assumed it was a holy deity, which probably means no one used it for garbage anymore.
Since many Indians worship multiple gods, creatures and objects in a variety of forms – including cows, plants and rivers – why be surprised if some of them turn their devotional attention to a kangaroo?
Not a live kangaroo, though, but a dustbin shaped like one.
The video above shows a group of women somewhere in India – Bihar, according to some – going through the entire ritual of worship. They sprinkled “holy” water on it, put vermilion streaks, placed flowers, and bowed. All this for a dustbin, which, of course, is a convenient receptacle for flowers.
One theory is that the worshippers mistook the creature depicted for a mouse, which is associated with the Hindu god Ganesha. Still, this could only happen in India.
