A comedy sketch (above) by a Pakistan-based YouTube channel Teeli presents a subtle take-down of this oft-repeated phrase that many live in fear of: “Log kya kahenge?” (What will people say?)

A young woman is waiting to be judged by the elusive Log for a picture she had uploaded with a young woman. Her mother tries to explain patiently: “After being under the British Empire for many years, we’re now under the Log Empire. They accept or reject the way we behave or look.” But they’re both unaware of who the Log are.

On the throne of judgement sits the panel of Log: her snoopy neighbour, her aunt, and the head of the panel called, well, Nobody. And it is this holy trinity, which has nothing to do with the woman’s life, will decide her future and place in society: will she get accepted or rejected?
