Are the protests against the imposition of 12% GST on sanitary napkins being heard? To ensure that they are, young women in Gwalior have decided to write to the Prime Minister.

But they’re not writing on notepaper. Instead, they’re using sanitary pads to write their appeals for lowering the GST rate. The objective is to send 1,000 such messages.

As activist Hari Mohan argues, instead of providing a subsidy on sanitary pads, which is an essential item for women, the government has labelled it a “luxury item”. And the movement is aimed not only at expressing discontentment but also at demanding that these products be made available free of cost.
