After parts of Brazil faced heavy rains in early February, among the many areas that were submerged under several feet of water as the rivers overflowed was a hiking trail. The outcome, as the video above shows, was like something out of a fantasy film.

This video was filmed by a park guide at the Recanto Ecológico Rio da Prata, about 56 km south of Bonito, where the Rio da Prata and Olho D’Água rivers overflowed into the nearby forests. A well-recognised tourist spot for snorkelling, bird-watching and hiking, the area turned briefly into an underwater paradise.

The crystal clear water of the rivers made it possible to view the submerged vegetation. Of course, it didn’t last long, but for a few days at least, this underwater garden was truly a sight to behold – if you could equip yourself with an oxygen tank, that is.
