“God has made all humans equal, so why can’t women drive?” asks Shamina Bano, a single mother in her forties from Karachi, Pakistan.

“Driving is all about having confidence”, Shamina Bano in the video above, posted by Cutacut, in which she describes why she gave up her old job – she was told she had to be “physical” – to drive a taxi instead, for Paxi (pink taxi), a Karachi-based service for women passengers only.

Paxi was set up to ensure, among other things, that women who have to travel in the city are not sexually harassed. And Shamina Bano’s answer to anyone asking her to do something she doesn’t want to while earning a living for herself and her son is to give them a “shut up call”.
