Watch: There’s an uncanny similarity in Fox News and North Korea State TV’s coverage
‘The Daily Show’ put together the little ‘propaganda-off’ to highlight the similarity in how they talk about their respective leaders.
It’s probably not a good sign when reports from a news channel in a free country start to resemble reports from state-sponsored television in an authoritarian regime. Well, buck up United States, because Trevor Noah’s The Daily Show has just assembled a “propaganda-off” between Fox News and North Korea’s State TV (video above) and things aren’t looking so good for the former.
That’s right, the video above shows the network coverage of US President Donald Trump and North Korea Dictator Kim Jong Un’s Singapore summit, using clips from respective commentaries. On one side, there is Fox News, who are infamous for the love and admiration they shower on Trump. On the other side, we have the North Korean news anchor, the “pink lady” as she’s popularly known. So what’s the bad news? Well, the competition is really, really close.
“Only days ago, President Trump ushered in a new era of diplomacy,” Fox News host Sean Hannity says in one clip included in the video.
“Our venerable supreme leader comrade opened a new, triumphant era of diplomacy,” says the North Korean anchor.
Uncanny, right?
No wonder The Washington Post reported a while ago that during the Singapore trip, Trump was impressed with how state-run North Korean programmes talk so positively about Kim. Trump himself admitted that not even Fox News praises him as much as the North Korean anchor praises Kim, and he joked about getting her a job in US media.
