A police dog in Spain showed off his medical and rescue skills when he attempted to perform cardiopulmonary resurrection or CPR on an officer, in a video posted on Twitter by the Municipal Police of Madrid.

When a police officer pretended to be unconscious and fell to the ground, Poncho rushed to his rescue. The dog jumped on the officer’s chest repeatedly and even stuck his snout into the officer’s neck, ostensibly to check his pulse and breathing. The department tweeted the video on Friday and wrote in Spanish about the “heroic” life-saving deed” stating that Poncho “did not hesitate for an instant to ‘save the life’ of the agent”.

The video went viral on social media and has been viewed over 2.5 million times, with users praising the skills of the service dog. Unfortunately, the video, while adorable, might not be an accurate representation of dogs being able to resuscitate humans. “I don’t think a dog could actually do CPR,” Ronnie Johnson, lead trainer at a centre for police dogs in Texas told The Washington Post on Tuesday.

Nevertheless, Poncho’s enthusiasm continues to win hearts around the world and his cuteness remains undisputed.
