Sorabh Pant might appear to be a brave rebel for joking about Indian politics and politicians in the strained political and social atmosphere today. But he has worked out a way to deal with the hate and threats that his humour attracts – he joked about those too.

In his stand-up comedy routine titled A Democracy of Jokes (video above) the East India Comedy comic put aside all biases to joke about the entire spectrum of Indian politics and politicians, taking care to pick targets from each side. This disclaimer-first approach may come off as diplomatic or even faint-hearted at first glance, but Pant’s humour on everything and everyone from the Aam Aadmi Party and the BJP to Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Narendra Modi justified the balanced approach.

As he wrote in his video description: “Still offended? The joke is on you.”
