Lakhs of people from Rajasthan invoked the Independence day spirit by paying tribute to those who died in the line of duty.

A 700-kilometer human chain (with, admittedly, a few breaks in between) was formed in four border districts of the state – Barmer, Jaisalmer, Bikaner and Sriganganagar – on Tuesday, along roads running parallel to the India-Pakistan border.

The event was part of the Rajasthan state government’s Shahadat Ko Salam (Salute to Martyrdom) programme to honour soldiers. A video of the aerial view was posted by ANI.

Around five lakh people, including government employees, Army personnel, scouts and guides and the general public formed the chain which was inspected by Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje from a helicopter.
