The widespread damage caused by Hurricane Florence forced hundreds of evacuations across the US state of North Carolina. But the human spirit is indomitable, as occupants of an evacuation shelter in New Bern, North Carolina, USA showed.
According to Inside Edition, Cathy Yolanda Wright, who was staying at the Trent Park Elementary School – a makeshift evacuation centre – began singing on her own, after which the others joined in spontaneously, creating a beautiful and hope-filled moment.
Even though the hurricane was downgraded to a tropical depression, it continues to cause flooding in affected areas. At least 17 deaths have occurred in storm-related incidents.
