The Supreme Court on Wednesday ordered realty firm Unitech to deposit Rs 15 crore that will be paid back to people who bought flats in the developer's upcoming project in Gurgaon. The firm will have to deposit Rs 5 crore with the apex court's registry in the next two weeks and the remaining amount by the end of September, reported The Financial Express.

More than 30 investors had approached the national consumer forum, alleging that the project is nowhere close to completion and is already running three years behind schedule. According to NDTV, the National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission slapped a fine on the firm and asked it to hand over the flats.

Unitech had earlier challenged the forum's order in the Supreme Court. The real estate major then pleaded for leniency and said it did not have enough money to pay the buyers. Counsel AM Singhvi had said, "If we had money, we would have constructed the flats and given them to the buyers.” The court then asked for a list of buyers who wanted to get their money back from the company.
