Football player Baichung Bhutia, actress Moon Moon Sen and Harvard academic Sugata Bose feature on the candidate list of Trinamool Congress for the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. So are two musicians: Soumitra Ray of the Bangla rock band Bhoomi, and Indranil Sen, who made his reputation singing Rabindra Sangeet.

Perhaps you can expect to hear these tunes at the next TMC rally you attend.

'Lalleswari' by Soumitra Ray and Bhoomi

Soumitro Ray, who will contest from Malda (North) in Bengal, is lead vocalist of the Bengali band Bhoomi. The band burst on the scene in 1999 and have since acquired a cult status. The band fuses modern lyrics with melodies from the Baul and Bhatiyali traditions. Ray is a song writer and percussionist with the band. He will run again Mausam Noor, the sitting MP, who represents the Congress. The video from album Gaan Doriyay was released in 2010.

'Parbati Holo Paru Ar Debdas' by Indranil Sen

Indranil Sen made a name for himself as a playback singer and by performing on Rabindra Sangeet albums. He will contest from Bahrampur. This video is from the album Anamika, released in 2007. It is a parody of the a tune written by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay, author of Devdas.

‘Khudar Kasam Jaan’ by Kabir Suman

The former journalist, modern song writer and musician is the Trinamool MP from Jadavpur constituency. However, he had a falling out with the party soon after the elections in 2009 and, not surprisingly, has been denied a ticket this time. He is considering running as an independent.  His tunes draw from Bengali folk music, US folk tunes and protest songs. Over his two-decade career, he has recorded several albums, as also composed music for such films as Katha (2007), Ranjana Ami Ar Asbo Na (2011) and Jatiswar (2014). He makes a cameo in this clip.
