The West Indies Cricket Board has apologised to the Indian cricket team, the Board of Cricket Control in India and the fans ahead of the first one-day international today in Kochi. The apology comes on the heels of news that some of the West Indies players are considering abandoning the first match.

“The WICB is making every effort to ensure that it fulfills all its commitments and that cricket is played,” the board said in the press release.

The West Indies Players Association have been at war with the WICB over revenue sharing and pay structure and this isn't the first time. According to a report on Cricinfo, “West Indies players have come out strongly against the West Indies Players Association president and chief executive Wavell Hinds, who they claim 'hoodwinked' them and did not take their inputs while signing a new memorandum of understanding with West Indies Cricket Board last month, under which they would suffer a significant cut in their payment.”

Captain Dwayne Bravo skipped the pre-match press conference on Tuesday while some of the other members skipped the training session.

With 90 minutes to go, it looks as if the match will go ahead as per scheduled at 2.30 pm but no announcement has yet been made.
