Movies come and go, but the song remains. Months after Hindi films have faded out of our memories, the hit tunes from their soundtracks continue to reverberate at picnics, weddings, discos and birthday parties.

Here are the year's top five dance tracks, which follow the hit-making formula to the hilt: a catchy beat that gets the hips moving, lyrics that are easy to memorise, and slickly shot videos.

1. Tune Maari Entriyaan
From Gunday

A foolproof mix of catchy lyrics and peppy beats, belted out by KK, Neeti Mohan, Vishal Dadlani and the singular Bappi Lahiri.

2. Babydoll
From Ragini MMS 2

The party anthem of the year and possibly many more to come, courtesy high-pitched beats, rap by the trio Meet Bros Anjjan, smart lyrics and spicy imagery shamelessly borrowed from American music videos.

3. London Thumakda
From Queen

Sung by Labh Januja, a track with dhol beats, a fusion of Indian and western instruments, and a perfect understanding of what makes wedding guests get onto the dance floor.

4. Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai
From Khoobsurat

This song isn't as good as the remixed version. Attention-grabbing lyrics complement the bass-heavy track, well suited to parties and night clubs.

5. Lovely
From Happy New Year

Deepika Padukone sizzles on the screen, while Kanika Kapoor sets the soundtrack on fire.
