Hopes of thousands of Jerry Seinfeld fans who were eagerly waiting for the comedian’s maiden trip to India have just been washed away as the organisers sent emails to those who had bought the tickets, stating the eponymous show stands cancelled due to issues related to “traffic and parking”.

"I have always been fascinated by India and its culture," Seinfeld had said about performing in India. "I have great respect for its people and their way of life. It is a great honour for me to be invited to come there and make fun of it in person."

But, bizarre as it may sound, the comedian won’t be able to perform his scheduled two shows at the Stage42 festival which is a joint venture between OML and NH7 due to “issues beyond organisers’ and artists’ control,” according to the email sent by the organisers.

Coincidentally, the show was scheduled to take place at the same venue as the AIB Roast at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Stadium, NSCI, Mumbai and was organised jointly with OML, the company which organised the AIB show as well.

The absurd reason provided for cancellation of the show has resulted in a lot of outrage on the social media, particularly on Twitter as people questioned the authorities’ motive in cancelling yet another show.

Many had previously been worried that the show might get into trouble with authorities, including a report by the Mumbai Mirror which reported a few days back about the trouble with the traffic authorities in the city that the show could run into. And it seemingly has.

Five weeks ago, when the show was announced and the ticket sales went live, columnist Sidharth Bhatia had warned the comedian that it wouldn't be easy to perform his regular act in India, and provided a few tips that the comedian could follow to make sure everything went smoothly, but now it is unlikely that Seinfeld will need these tips anytime soon.

Here are some of the tweets on the cancellation of this much awaited show.
