On Friday, the internet exploded as soon as a story by India Today surfaced alleging that the first prime minister of the country, Jawaharlal Nehru, gave orders for spying on freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose's family for over two decades.

"For two decades, between 1948 and 1968, the government placed the Bose family members under intensive surveillance. Sleuths intercepted, read and recorded letters of the family of a freedom fighter who was Nehru's political co-worker for 25 years," the magazine reported.

Twitter, had been waiting just for something like this as everyone, it seemed, had an opinion on it, along with outrage and accusations: fingers were pointed, good old fashioned mud was slung, as photos were dug out, captioned and photoshopped.  Here's a selection of some of the tweets:
