An earthquake measuring 7.9 in magnitude on the Richter scale rocked central Nepal on Saturday, causing extensive damage to buildings.

The quake measured 7.9 and struck 81km northwest of the capital Kathmandu, the US Geological Survey reported as it raised its initial 7.5 estimate of the magnitude.

Tremors were felt as far away as the Indian capital Delhi and other cities in northern India including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.

There was no early word on any casualties from Nepal though first reports suggest that there has been extensive damage to houses and property as walls came falling down to the ground.

Some people took to Twitter to say that the airport had been closed and reports of heavy damage are coming in from severely affected areas

Aother earthquake with magnitude 5.0 was recorded almost 79 kilometers away from Tulsipur four day ago.
