DOCUMENTARY HISTORY TALKS 1916 The Irish Rebellion at India International Centre
Director Ruan Magan’s 2016 documentary narrated by Irish actor Liam Neeson will be screened. Magan uses rare archival footage and interviews to tell the story of the 1916 Easter Rising in which a band of Irish rebels challenged the prevailing British powers in Dublin. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Bríona Nic Dhiarmada, the professor of Irish Studies who wrote and produced the documentary, and Conor Mulvagh, lecturer of Irish history at University College Dublin. FILM Habitat Film Festival at Habitat World
Films from across India will be screened at India Habitat Centre’s festival. Saturday’s schedule includes R. S. Vimal’s 2015 Malayalam film Ennu Ninte Moideen, which is based on the real-life tragic love story of a Hindu girl and Muslim boy, and Kaushik Ganguly’s 2015 Bengali film Cinemawala that hinges on the life of a small-town film exhibitor. Vertimaaran’s 2015 Tamil film Visaranai, about four poverty-stricken men at the mercy of a corrupt police force, will be among the movies shown on Sunday. The festival will include a retrospective of the work of Hindi cinema’s ‘dancing queen’, Helen, and a Q&A session with the yesteryear star. There is no entry fee. MUSEUM EXHIBITION Threads of Continuity: Zoroastrian Life and Culture at the National Museum and the National Gallery of Modern Art
The Ministry of Minority Affairs is hosting three exhibitions on the history, culture and impact of the Parsi community in India. An exhibition on Zoroastrianism at the National Museum takes visitors through the history of the community from the emergence of the religion in Iran to its journey to the west coast of India. ‘Painted Encounters: Parsi Traders and the Community’ at the National Gallery of Modern Art is an exhibition of engravings, paintings and photographs that traces how Parsi ship builders and businessmen established trade with Canton in the nineteenth century. ‘No Parsi is an Island’, also at the NGMA, is a show of the works of 14 Parsi artists such as Pestonji Bomanji and Gieve Patel over the last 150 years. Entry to the NGMA is free. Tickets to the National Museum are priced at Rs 20 per head for Indians and Rs 650 per head (inclusive of the audio tour) for foreigners.
