Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said that National Democratic Alliance leaders were following a "one controversy a day policy" on Thursday after union minister VK Singh compared the killings of two Dalit children in a Faridabad village to a dog being stoned, and asked for Singh's resignation. Surjewala also demanded an apology to the nation, said a Hindustan Times report.

When he was asked if the government was at fault for the killings, Singh had said, "Don't connect the government with it. It was a feud between two families, the matter is under inquiry." The Bharatiya Janata Party leader then added, "If someone throws stones at a dog, the government is not responsible". After coming under severe criticism from opposition leaders for the comments, VK Singh said on Twitter that he did not intend to draw an analogy.

BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra defended the minister's apology, and said the incident should not be "blown out of proportion". “A trend has started to politicise all issues on caste and communal lines. Let us not make everything a caste and communal issue,” he said.

On Monday, a two-and-a-half year old boy and a 11-month-old girl belonging to a Dalit family were charred to death after their house was set on fire while they were sleeping, allegedly by members of an upper-caste community.
