The arrest of underworld gangster Chhota Rajan in Indonesia on Monday after a two-decade-long chase is expected to significantly bolster India's case against Pakistan-based Dawood Ibrahim, main accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts that killed over 250 people.

The Times of India reported a police officer saying that Rajan may help India get further details on Ibrahim's hideouts, network and activities in Pakistan and beyond. While Ibrahim is widely believed to be holed out in Karachi, Pakistan has cited lack of evidence to back the claims.

Rajan was an aide of Ibrahim before they parted ways following the 1993 serial blasts in Mumbai. They have since been embroiled in a bloody gang war. Rajan has been in contact with the Indian intelligence establishment for some time now, said the Times of India report. His arrest may also have been partially orchestrated by himself, reported The Hindu, as he had been growing increasingly wary about his own safety with Dawood aide Chhota Shakeel reportedly pursuing to kill him.
